Band

The Foundation Academy Band Program uses instruments to teach music and creativity. Students build camaraderie and discipline by learning to play music in an ensemble setting. They have great opportunities to build leadership skills within any of our instrumental music settings.

Lower School (K-6)

The Foundation Academy Beginner Band teaches students the fundamentals and joys of playing wind and percussion instruments. Students learn about music, they learn how to be sensitive to what they are hearing, they learn to self assess, and they learn to celebrate small victories of their own and of classmates.

Upper School (7-12)

The Foundation Academy Band Program uses instruments to teach music and Many elements of the High school band are the same as the Middle school band, however, students are able to take on more responsibility and leadership both musically and within the band organization at FA. Through ensemble performances at our Winter and Spring concerts and Solo performance opportunities like the S&E, students are continually encouraged to pursue excellence on their instrument and in music in general.

Band Opportunities

Marching Band

Fall, food, football…and marching band! The Lion Band combines the Middle and High school bands to form a larger group that really gets the energy moving! This ensemble performs classic marching band tunes like The Hey Song, popular music such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and some of the more intimidating classical pieces like Holst’s Mars.

Jazz Band

New to Foundation Academy, the Jazz Band is a great environment for students to let loose from the written notes on the page and practice their ability to improvise. This after school activity will stretch students of any musical background to be able to listen to and feel the music while playing their instrument with a superior skill and sound.

Concert Band

The concert band performs multiple times a year, primarily at the Winter Concert and the Spring Concert. This group has performed with the FA Choir, and has performed at chapel and has even put on events for lower school students. This ensemble performs the most challenging music at FA, and is the anchor for all other ensembles.

Digital Audio

Students learn to digitally create music from the ground up as well as manipulate sound that already exists. Students can create music, learn podcasting skills, and even create sound effects using Foley for video games and movies.

Steel Drums

Foundation Steel has become one of the most popular programs in the arts. Mr. James McKey leads the program which utilizes the unique sounds of the steel drums to learn and cover a diverse range of music!
